Future dreams

Time required: approximately 2–3 lessons

What do they hope for – and what worries them? The future holds many questions. For some, the future may be experienced as a world full of positive opportunities, while for others it may seem more unmanageable. Maybe both…

Content and direction

A theme focusing on wishes, dreams, hopes, choices and the challenges that can also come with them.
Various elements are at play:

  • Education and opportunities in the three countries
  • Expectations and pressure
  • Concerns about, for example, climate and the world around us
  • Technology and the future (including AI)

Here, a broad picture of the future is drawn – seen from different perspectives.

Video interviews (approx. 15 min.)

Here, young people talk about their thoughts about the future – and what they dream of.
It might be a good idea to take notes during the interview – and collect them afterwards.

Conversation in class

The theme opens up questions where students can share, reflect and think further.

This could, for example, be about:

  • What is important now and in the future?
  • Can dreams change over time?
  • What possibilities and limitations might there be?

Good conversations can arise when students discover that they don’t necessarily think alike – even in the same class. Some may have clear ideas about their future, while others are more open-minded. The theme can take different directions depending on the class. Some students talk about specific jobs and education. Others quickly get into bigger questions about life, the world and the future.

Assignments/answer sheets

Questions divided into three categories:

  • Fact
  • Youth perspectives (video interviews)
  • The student’s own reflections

Perspective

Theme 3 builds on the first themes, but shifts the focus from “how we live” to “where we are going”.
Students have the opportunity to:

  • Putting their own dreams into play
  • Compare opportunities across countries
  • Discover how different conditions can influence future choices

Theme Kahoot – digital and analog

If the class is working digitally, they can access Kahoot via link and complete it as a shared activity. The questions are also available in an analog version. They can be used if you are working without a screen – or if you want to take the questions at your own pace, e.g. as a shared review in class. The Kahoots checklist is included as an appendix at the back of the learning guide.
