Theme 6

Tema 6

Tre essays

Intro

In Theme 6, students meet a young person from each country, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark – through three essays. This draws a picture of what it is like to be young in the three countries – seen from a personal perspective. Subsequently, students are invited to write an essay of their own.

Content and direction

I think something special happens when you read other people’s personal stories. You don’t just gain knowledge – you get a feeling. Of a life, a place, a way of thinking.

The three essays can be read in different ways:
• Reading of all 3 essays in class
• Reading in small groups (possibly groups of 3 where each student reads an essay)
• Individual reading of 3 essays

Conversation in class

Questions could be, for example:
• What do you particularly notice in the 3 essays?
• What seems recognizable?
• What is different/surprising?

Write an essay

Here, students are invited to write personally about themselves and their everyday lives. Remember to save! The amount of time needed for the essay will vary. Students who are ready can proceed to answer the following 2 tasks in writing:

Your future:

How do you imagine your life in 5-10 years?

Imagination and Imagination

Write a letter to a friend describing your life as “born and raised” in one of the other 2 countries in the Commonwealth.

Perspective

Theme 6 marks a shift in the process.
The idea is that the students use what they have worked on so far as a natural starting point for the final theme.
