Dreams and challenges
What do young people think about the future? When you are young, the future can feel both open and overwhelming at the same time. There are many opportunities – but also many choices. Some young people dream about education, travel, sports or a specific job. Others mainly dream about being happy, having good people around them and feeling safe. Some know exactly what they want. Others are unsure – and that is completely normal. In Greenland, the future can involve questions like: Should I stay in my town or move? Should I study in Denmark? In the Faroe Islands, it can also be about: Staying on the islands – or leaving to study? In Denmark, it can be about: What should I choose when there are so many options?
What is right for me? At the same time, young people in all three countries may face challenges.
These can include: pressure from school and grades, expectations from family or society and concerns about climate, the future, well-being or identity.
Language and education in the three countries
In Greenland, Greenlandic is the main language, and Danish is also part of education. There are many educational opportunities in Greenland – both upper secondary and higher education – and it is not necessary to go to Denmark to continue studying. However, some young people choose to study in Denmark, and for them it can be challenging to move far away from home and follow classes in Danish. In the Faroe Islands, Faroese is the main language, but Danish is also part of school. There are also upper secondary and higher education opportunities in the Faroe Islands, and many young people choose to stay. Others travel to Denmark or other countries to study – and some return later. In Denmark, teaching is in Danish, and there are many educational opportunities across the country. Young people in Denmark often have access to education close to home, but may instead experience pressure related to choices and expectations.
Politics and the future
The political crisis (2026) between the USA and Denmark/Greenland has made many people discuss who should decide Greenland’s future. For young people, this can raise questions about education, work and opportunities. In Denmark, education is free. In the USA, you usually have to pay for education, and it can be very expensive. This can make some young people reflect on how political decisions can affect their future.
Shared dreams – different paths
Young people in Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark share many of the same dreams about education, community and a good life. But the path to get there can be different. Some have to move far away or study in another language, while others have more opportunities close to home.
Safety and preparedness
In Denmark, it is recommended that people can manage on their own for 3 days (72 hours) in a crisis situation. In Greenland, the recommendation is 5 days (120 hours), partly because of long distances and geographical conditions. In the Faroe Islands, preparedness is assessed continuously based on local conditions. These recommendations are about being prepared – not about creating fear.
AI and the future

Faith and community
In uncertain times, some people look for community and security in churches or other meeting places. In Greenland, some have said that the church can be a place to find calm and community in uncertain times. This applies to both adults and young people – but not everyone reacts in the same way. Some talk more with family and friends, while others find strength in faith or traditions.
